Patent & Business Analyst

Our Cambridgeshire client is seeking a highly motivated Business Analyst with experience or demonstrable interest in patents to join their dynamic team. The successful candidate will provide crucial business intelligence that will guide the Research, Corporate Venturing, and Innovation teams by analysing patent landscapes and competitor portfolios.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform comprehensive patent searches and competitor portfolio analyses to provide clear, actionable insights.
• Use visualization tools to effectively communicate patent landscape findings.
• Monitor competitor IP developments and provide detailed reports.
• Collaborate with external patent search providers and maintain software licenses.
• Support the IP team by providing valuable business intelligence from non-patent sources.
• Ensure the highest standards of compliance are maintained with scope of responsibility.

Essential Qualifications & Skills:

• Education: PhD in Chemistry, Physics, or Biochemistry.
• Demonstrated interest in patents and business intelligence.
• Experience in performing complex patent searches and communicating results.
• Familiarity with patent databases like Derwent Innovation, PatentSight, or Orbit.
• Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Self-motivated, with excellent time management and organisational skills.
• Ability to prioritise tasks and adapt to a dynamic, deadline-driven environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex ideas to various audiences.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
