Field Service Engineer

Location: Stamford – easily commutable from Peterborough, Corby, Kettering, Oakham, Grantham, Bourne, Market Deeping, Leicester.
Salary: £40,000 – £50,000 depending on experience
Hours: Full-time, permanent

Our client, an established engineering manufacturer of high-performance electrical and mechanical test equipment, is seeking an experienced Field Service Engineer to provide technical support, commissioning, and maintenance across a specialist product range used worldwide.

This role is hands-on, varied, and customer-facing. You’ll be fault-finding on complex electro-mechanical systems, installing and commissioning equipment on customer sites, resolving technical issues, and ensuring products continue to perform reliably throughout their lifecycle. The position offers a mix of home-based support work, workshop activity, and UK/international travel for short service visits.

Key responsibilities for Field Service Engineer include:

• Providing technical support to customers via phone, email, remote connection, or on-site attendance
• Diagnosing electrical and mechanical faults on industrial control systems down to component level
• Carrying out repair, testing, and preventative maintenance across a range of electro-mechanical equipment
• Undertaking equipment commissioning, system testing, and customer training at sites worldwide
• Responding to service and warranty cases within agreed timeframes, ensuring high-quality customer experience
• Producing accurate service documentation including reports, commissioning records, and fault analysis
• Preparing RAMS documentation and ensuring safe working practices at all times
• Using internal systems (e.g., SAP or equivalent) to log service calls, resolutions, and trend data
• Liaising with Engineering, Production, and Sales teams to feedback technical issues and support product improvements

Field Service Engineer – Essential Requirements:

• ONC or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering (formal apprenticeship highly desirable)
• Proven experience in servicing, repairing, or commissioning industrial electrical/mechanical equipment
• Strong electrical fault-finding skills with the ability to work to component level
• Confident working with control systems, power electronics, sensors, and electro-mechanical assemblies
• Solid organisational and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with customers
• Willingness to travel internationally at short notice (typically short-duration trips)
• IT skills including MS Office; experience with SAP or similar systems beneficial
• Full UK Driving Licence and valid passport
