Women aged 50 and over are the fastest-growing demographic in the UK workforce, with many experiencing perimenopause and menopause during the peak of their careers. While menopause is a natural stage of life, its impact on confidence, concentration, sleep, wellbeing and performance can present significant challenges in the workplace.
Supporting women through this transition is about far more than managing symptoms. With the right understanding and practical support, organisations have an opportunity to improve employee wellbeing, retain experienced talent, reduce the impact of absenteeism and presenteeism, and create more inclusive workplaces where women can continue to lead and thrive.
We will be joined by Sarah Tompsett, former HR Director, Leadership Coach and Mentor, who will explore menopause through both a leadership and workplace lens. Drawing on over 20 years' experience in HR, alongside her work supporting women through career, health and life transitions, Sarah will share practical, evidence-informed insights into how individuals, managers and organisations can work together to create menopause-friendly workplaces.
During this session, Sarah will cover:
Understanding the difference between perimenopause and menopause, and why every woman's experience is unique.
The impact hormonal, stress and lifestyle changes can have on confidence, concentration, energy, wellbeing and performance at work.
Practical strategies women can use to better support themselves through this transition.
The vital role line managers play in creating psychologically safe conversations and providing appropriate support.
Reasonable workplace adjustments and what the evidence tells us employees find most helpful.
The importance of menopause policies, manager training and organisational culture in supporting and retaining experienced employees.
Why supporting menopause in the workplace is not simply about managing symptoms but about creating workplaces where women can continue to contribute, lead and thrive throughout their careers.
